Smart tachograph & compliance

EU Driving Rules That Enforce Themselves — So Your Drivers Can Just Drive.

Automated EU 561/2006 tracking, split-break intelligence and a dual-driver HUD. Depot2Door watches the clock, warns before the limit and seals the paperwork, so compliance stops being a memory test.

What the module does while the wheels turn

Six capabilities that remove every manual step between the driver and the regulation.

Live 4h30 driving countdown

A single, unmissable counter that turns amber before the limit and red at the deadline — with haptics and notifications that fire even when the phone is locked.

Automatic duty-state switching

Driving, other work, availability and rest change themselves from motion and GPS. No menu diving, no forgotten mode switches, no manual corrections at midnight.

Split-break intelligence

The 15' and 30' options obey the legal order. Once fifteen minutes is banked the app locks the wrong choice out entirely and shows progress to the required thirty.

Auto-engaging driving HUD

After a minute of movement the timer takes the full screen in glanceable type, then minimises with a swipe. The state survives reloads, crashes and route changes.

Double-manning with slot switching

Two parallel duty logs, a confirmed seat-switch flow with a summary of what gets reassigned, and co-driver name binding straight from settings.

Sealed audit trail

Every daily crew log is hash-chained to the day before, so a rewritten or missing record shows up as a broken chain in the office archive instead of disappearing.

Automated duty-state & stop detection

Drivers stop dozens of times a day, and almost none of those stops are breaks. The engine reads motion and GPS to decide what a pause actually was — and asks only when the answer matters.

  • Pauses under 15 minutes log automatically as operational work, not rest
  • Longer stops raise a prompt: count this as a break, or as other work?
  • Departure from a stop resumes the driving counter without a single tap
  • Every state change is timestamped, revisioned and queued for the office

EU 561/2006 split-break intelligence

The order is the law

A split break is 15 minutes then 30 minutes — never the reverse. The interface encodes that order instead of trusting the driver to remember it.

Greying, not scolding

Once 15 minutes is banked the 15' button greys out with a haptic cue. There is no error message because the illegal choice was never offered.

Progress you can read at a glance

A live indicator shows exactly how much of the required 30+ minutes is complete, so drivers know when they can legally roll again.

Swipe down to minimise

Once the vehicle has been moving for a minute the timer takes the whole screen in type that reads at arm's length. It is a safety feature first: no scrolling, no small targets, nothing to hunt for at 90 km/h.

  • Engages automatically after sustained motion — never mid-task in a yard
  • Swipe or close to minimise; inactivity returns it when driving resumes
  • Minimised or full state persists across reloads and route changes
  • Crash-safe restore brings back the exact state from the last heartbeat

Confirm seat switch

Slot 1 driving stops and continues as availability. Slot 2 availability becomes driving. Nothing already logged is rewritten.

Long-haul crews run two duty logs at once, and the difference between driving and availability decides whether a run is legal. Depot2Door keeps both slots live and makes every seat change deliberate.

  • Single or double-manned operation mode, switched in settings
  • Co-driver name binds to Slot 2 and follows through to every report
  • Seat switches ask for confirmation with a summary of what gets reassigned
  • Slot 2 elements stay hidden entirely in single-manned mode

The business case for fleet licensees

What a transport manager gets out of a module the drivers barely notice.

Operational upside

  • Audit protection: hash-chained daily crew logs with Slot 1/Slot 2 timestamps and every split-break decision recorded
  • Fewer infringements: amber and red warnings reach the driver before the limit, not after the download
  • Real-time dispatch visibility: the crew-hours board shows remaining legal driving time per driver, live

Risk & audit upside

  • Safer planning: publishing a route that exceeds a driver's remaining hours requires an explicit override
  • Zero-friction driver UX: automatic duty states mean nothing to learn and nothing to remember
  • Cloud-synced timestamps: logs queue offline and upload themselves when coverage returns

Dispatchers see the same numbers on the crew-hours board inside fleet management & dispatch .

Smart tachograph FAQ

Does this replace the digital tachograph in the vehicle?

No. The vehicle unit stays the legal recording device. Depot2Door runs alongside it as the driver's live coach and the office's early-warning system: it tracks driving, other work, availability and rest in real time so nobody discovers an infringement a week later when the card is downloaded.

How does the app know the driver started driving?

Duty states switch automatically from motion and GPS. A pause under fifteen minutes is logged as operational work rather than a break, and longer stops raise a prompt asking whether the driver wants that time counted as a break or as other work.

How is the 45-minute break split enforced?

EU 561/2006 allows a 45-minute break to be split into 15 minutes followed by 30 minutes, in that order. Once fifteen minutes is banked, the 15' button greys out and only the 30' option stays live, so the sequence can never be logged the wrong way round.

Does it support double-manned crews?

Yes. Switch the operation mode to double-manned in settings, bind a co-driver name to Slot 2, and both duty logs run in parallel. Seat switches ask for confirmation and show exactly which time is being reassigned before anything changes.

What happens to the records at the end of the shift?

The daily crew log — Slot 1 and Slot 2 timestamps, split-break decisions and an EU 561 infringement summary — is attached to the end-of-shift report, sealed with a hash that references the previous day and uploaded to the office archive as soon as there is signal.
